For an Agia Roumeli ferry, choose your destination before opening a timetable. The village has eastbound and westbound routes. Reaching the next port may still leave an onward bus task. You may also need to recover a car. Use the actual date and direction in the operator's lookup.
Start with the port you need after Agia Roumeli. Sfakia lies on the east-side return. Sougia and Paleochora are western choices. Read the published route and footnotes, then confirm the next land leg. A boat serving the village does not prove Samaria is open. A general ferry page does not confirm a particular sailing either.
Agia Roumeli ferry destinations
ANENDYK's route page separates departures by port and direction. Find the heading for Agia Roumeli first. Choose the destination that fits the rest of your day. Do not pick a time just because it looks familiar.
| Destination | Planning purpose | Next thing to settle |
|---|---|---|
| Hora Sfakion, also called Sfakia | East-side road return or a coastal visit | The onward bus or other land transfer |
| Loutro | A coastal stop on the east side | Whether your chosen sailing calls there |
| Sougia | West-side return | Bus destination or car recovery |
| Paleochora | A western coastal base | The route, any stops and your accommodation access |

This table is a destination reference, not a departure list. Open the carrier's current timetable for the service itself. If the route text calls for a change of vessel, keep that detail in your plan.
Read the timetable row
Check the validity range before the weekday column. ANENDYK states that its times are local. Some entries carry a passenger-only mark, so a vehicle plan needs more than a matching time. Do not reuse a previous season's screenshot without checking it again.
When you find a useful departure, save the whole row with its footnotes. A cropped time can lose the direction or the period it covers. Recheck any current carrier announcements before travel, especially if a later bus depends on the boat.
For an east-side plan, use the Sfakia–Agia Roumeli transport guide. For a western return, read the westbound operator row for the actual day. These decisions are more useful than assuming every boat leads back to the same bus.
Tickets and boarding checks
Use the booking destination linked from the operator's website. Check the ports, date and traveller category before payment. Keep the ticket available offline. Ask the carrier about unusual items or assistance. A normal foot-passenger ticket may not cover what you need.
Read the boarding instructions for your actual service. The boat boarding point is separate from the park's southern exit. Finishing the gorge does not put you aboard: allow for the onward walk and finding the correct departure.
Fares and sailing availability belong to the current operator selection. We do not quote a general price as a fare for every date and category. A return, child or vehicle booking can differ from a single adult foot-passenger ticket.
Before using the boat for a gorge visit
Facts checked: 15 October 2026. NECCA's Samaria portal reported closure from both entrances pending inspections. It did not give a reopening date. A ferry reservation for Agia Roumeli does not grant park entry.
Keep the village trip and the gorge walk separate in your mind. You may want to visit the coast even when entering the park is not possible. If the walk is the only reason for your travel, read the current access notice before paying for the other legs.
Common ferry questions
Does one ferry serve every destination?
Read the route attached to your departure. A vessel can call at intermediate ports, while another service may have a different pattern or require a change. The destination list on a general guide does not establish that one boat serves all those places on your travel date.
Do I need a separate bus ticket?
Check the terms of what you bought. A standalone sea ticket should not be assumed to include a road transfer. Match the arrival port to the actual bus or other land service, and confirm the date. If a package includes both, keep that written description with your booking.
Can I arrive at the park exit just before sailing?
The park exit and the boat boarding point are different places. Your plan must allow for the ground between them and the operator's boarding requirements. Do not use a walking time that ends at the park control as proof that you can board a boat at the same time.
Are timetable times the same all year?
No. The operator publishes validity periods and weekday columns. Use the period covering your actual date and check current announcements. A seasonal timetable is also different from confirmation that weather will allow a particular sailing. Recheck with the carrier if your whole return depends on that service.
For a full crossing that starts on the mountain side, check the bus from Chania to the northern entrance. That outward road leg is separate from the boat after the walk.
Verdict on the Agia Roumeli ferry
An Agia Roumeli ferry search should end with a named destination and a workable next leg. Keep the direction and date attached to the departure, then check park entry independently. Use the main transport guide when you need to connect the sea trip to the rest of a Samaria day.
